Our COVID-19 Response:

Stevens Institute of Technology's response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been guided by recommendations from the American College Health Association, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and the New Jersey Department of Health, among other respected organizations.
 
The university’s focus centered on a number of guiding principles: reducing the risk of infection for members of our community while maintaining the core mission of the university; following applicable guidance and implementing best practices recommended by government and health authorities and respond with agility to new circumstances; encouraging and supporting individual and shared responsibility within our community in minimizing infection and risk; returning responsibly and in stages, while providing flexibility for employees and students where possible; and communicating transparently and frequently with all members of the Stevens community.
 
The sentiments of the campus community were solicited throughout the planning and implementation process, including meetings with the Faculty Senate, Student Government Association, the Graduate Student Council, town hall meetings with the President, ad hoc meetings with various academic and administrative leaders, and a joint planning committee of the Faculty Senate and administration. Additional steps have included the engagement of Hackensack Meridian Health as a healthcare advisor for COVID-19; de-densification of the campus community through hybrid and remote learning as well as remote work arrangements; weekly on-campus COVID-19 testing for all members of the campus community living, studying or working on campus; restriction of campus access and a rigorous and limited visitor policy; contact tracing, quarantining and/or isolation of infected students and close contacts; maintenance of a public website with guidance, FAQs and a dashboard of testing data; and weekly emails to the community as conditions and policies change.
 
After extensive consultation with students, faculty, and staff and in accordance with health and government guidance, Stevens determined that requiring vaccination for COVID-19 was the best approach to enable a return to an on-campus teaching and learning experience for the Fall 2021 semester. Stevens is one of a growing number of colleges and universities in New Jersey and across the nation who have made vaccination against COVID-19 a requirement.

  • Doctor's degree-research/scholarship: Requires advanced work beyond the master's level, including the preparation and defense of a dissertation based on original research, or the planning and execution of an original project demonstrating substantial artistic or scholarly achievement.
  • Doctor's degree-professional practice: A doctor's degree that is conferred upon completion of a program providing the knowledge and skills for the recognition, credential, or license required for professional practice. The degree is awarded after a period of study such that the total time to the degree, including both pre-professional and professional preparation, equals at least six full-time equivalent academic years. Some of these degrees were formerly classified as first-professional and may include: Chiropractic (D.C. or D.C.M.); Dentistry (D.D.S. OR D.M.D.); Law (L.L.B. or J.D.); Medicine (M.D.); Optometry (O.D.); Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.); Pharmacy (Pharm.D.); Podiatry (D.P.M., Pod.D., D.P.); or, Vetrinary Medicine (D.V.M.), and others, as designated by the awarding institution.
  • Doctor's degree-other: A doctor's degree that does not meet the definition of a doctor's degree-research/scholarship or a doctor's degree-professional practice.

About Our Faculty

Faculty Information   Student Faculty Ratio: Ratios are for full-time equivalent students to full-time equivalent instructional faculty for the fall of 2020. Full-time equivalent equals all the full-time individuals plus one-third of the part-time individuals. Faculty and students in stand-alone graduate programs such as medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, business, or public health in which faculty teach virtually only graduate level students are not included in the ratio calculations. Stevens’ 55-acre, park-like campus is located in Hoboken, NJ, a bustling waterfront city characterized by historic brownstones, riverside walkways and a vibrant dining and arts scene.
